Q1 2025 Membership Update
Please take a moment to catch up on all the things happening with the Water Island Civic Association since our annual meeting was held on January 18th. This first quarter of the year has us off to a busy start!
Firstly, if you would like to read over the annual meeting minutes and the approved budget for 2025. Sign in to the member area of our website here. You can find a link to pay dues (set at $350 this year) in the Members section from the drop-down menu on the Home Page. If you prefer, you may also drop a check off at The Crossing. Thank you to the 78 members who have already contributed. It’s also never too late to join one of the committees and become more deeply engaged by donating your time and talents.
The membership committee has met to discuss some new ideas, including a “friends of Water Island” option for those who wish to support our mission, but do not qualify for WICA membership. We also are making reminder calls to lapsed members, and considering business sponsorship opportunities.
WICA has had numerous enjoyable and successful fundraising and social events: on January 25th, the Third Annual Cart Poker Run raised over $2,500; March 1st Casino Night netted $3,100, hosted by Rob and Chaun; the Northups hosted their annual Mardi Gras party on March 4th. The St Patrick’s Day Parade, complete with a bagpiper, took place on March 16th.
Our March 8th Limestone Beach Clean-up had a robust crew of beach-combers, and the WISAR boat hauled away heaps of fishing nets, bags of plastics, old tires and other debris.

There was a great turn-out at the March 24th Town Hall Meeting, hosted at the Firehouse, where VI Government representatives updated the community on development projects and a variety of issues impacting the island. Follow-up questions have been submitted, and more concrete answers should be forthcoming, following a meeting between the government and the WIDC.
We extend special thanks to the Water Island Ferry and Dinghy’s for generously offering our membership discounted pricing. We are also particularly grateful to Jason and Coral Reynolds of the Virgin Islands Campground, Jan Nestrud and George & Patty Stricker, who all made $1,000 donations to support our important work making our island even more wonderful.
Upcoming projects include the Annual Easter Egg Hunt and Potluck at the Crossing on Sunday, April 20th. We are also getting busy preparing the latest Water Island Directory, so please check that your contact information is up to date before it goes to print in the next couple of weeks.
Thank you for all you do,
Julia Rhode
2025 President
