Below is the prayer offered by Fred Northup at the beginning of our Civic Association Annual Meetings.
A Prayer for Our Island
O God we give thanks for the miracle of nature that surrounds us on land, water and in the air. We come here from different places for different reasons, and yet we realize that on this island we are all your children and members of the human family.
Be present with this our Water Island family, we pray, in all the changes and chances of our life together. Help us to rejoice with those who rejoice, and to be present and a source of comfort for those who suffer.
Open our hearts to the goodness of others and may kindness infect all our relationships. Strengthen us in all our efforts and give us the courage, will, and perseverance to work together for the common good.
Finally, remind us always of all the blessings of this life, and give us a spirit of joy in all we do.
Amen.
